Antioch
Antioch on the Orontes was one of the great cities of the Roman world and the home of the first largely Gentile church. Believers were first called Christians there, Barnabas and Saul taught there for a year, and the church sent them out on the first missionary journey.

Bethany was a village on the eastern side of the Mount of Olives, a short walk from Jerusalem, and the home of Martha, Mary, and Lazarus. Jesus raised Lazarus there, was anointed there, lodged there during the final week, and led His disciples out toward Bethany before His ascension.

Bethlehem is a town in the Judean hills south of Jerusalem. It was the hometown of David and, according to Matthew and Luke, the birthplace of Jesus. The prophet Micah named it as the place from which Israel's ruler would come.

Caesarea was the Roman administrative capital of Judea, a harbor city on the Mediterranean built by Herod the Great. Philip settled there, the centurion Cornelius lived there when Peter brought him the Gospel, and Paul was later held there for two years before his appeal to Caesar.

Caesarea Philippi was a city at the foot of Mount Hermon, rebuilt by Herod's son Philip and named for Caesar and for himself. In the villages around it Jesus asked His disciples who they said He was, and Peter answered that He is the Christ.

Cana was a village in Galilee where Jesus turned water into wine at a wedding, the first of His signs in John's Gospel, and where He later healed an official's son from a distance. Nathanael was from Cana.

Capernaum was a fishing town on the north shore of the Sea of Galilee that became the base of Jesus's Galilean ministry. Matthew calls it His own town; the Gospels place many healings and synagogue teachings there.

Damascus is an ancient city of Syria, named in Genesis and throughout the history of Israel's kings and prophets. Saul of Tarsus was traveling there to arrest believers when the risen Jesus met him on the road, and in Damascus he was healed, baptized, and first proclaimed Jesus as the Christ.

Egypt is the great kingdom on the Nile where Jacob's family settled, where Israel was enslaved for generations, and from which God brought them out at the exodus. Galilee is the northern region of the land where Jesus grew up and carried out most of His public ministry. Isaiah had spoken of light dawning on Zebulun and Naphtali, and Matthew reads the Galilean ministry as that light.

Gethsemane was a garden or olive grove at the foot of the Mount of Olives, across the Kidron Valley from Jerusalem, where Jesus often met with His disciples. On the night of His arrest He prayed there in anguish and was betrayed there by Judas.

Nazareth was a small village in Lower Galilee where Jesus grew up, which is why He is called Jesus of Nazareth. Luke records the annunciation to Mary there and Jesus's later rejection in its synagogue.

The Sea of Galilee is the freshwater lake in northern Israel, also called Gennesaret and Tiberias, around which most of Jesus's Galilean ministry took place. He called fishermen on its shore, taught from boats, calmed its storm, and walked on its water.

The temple in Jerusalem was the house of God at the center of Israel's worship, rebuilt after the exile and greatly enlarged by Herod the Great. Jesus was presented there as an infant, taught in its courts, drove out the traders, foretold its destruction, and was accused at His trial of threatening it.

The wilderness of Judea is the dry country east of Jerusalem falling toward the Jordan valley and the Dead Sea. John the Baptist preached there, and the Gospels place the forty days of Jesus's testing in the wilderness after His baptism.
