Eden
Also known as Garden of Eden, Paradise
Eden was the garden God planted in the east and where He placed the first humans, with the tree of life at its center. After the fall, God sent the man and woman out and set cherubim to guard the way back to the tree of life.
Why it matters. The Bible ends where it began, with the tree of life in a renewed creation, and Jesus promises the thief on the cross that he will be with Him in paradise. Eden names what was lost and what Christ restores.

Genesis places the garden in the east, watered by a river that divides into four, two of which are the Tigris and Euphrates. No location can be identified with confidence, and Christian traditions differ on how literally to map it.
