An angel spoke to a young woman in Nazareth, a census sent a family to Bethlehem, shepherds heard the news first, and wise men came from the east.   3. 03Baptism, wilderness, and the first proclamationThe Kingdom AnnouncedJohn the Baptist prepared the way in the wilderness. Jesus was baptized in the Jordan, tested in the desert, and returned to Galilee announcing that the time was fulfilled and the Kingdom of God had come near.   4. 04Teachings, signs, compassion, and conflictTeacher and HealerIn Galilee Jesus taught in parables and on hillsides, healed the sick, welcomed outcasts, calmed a storm, fed thousands, and raised the dead.   5. 05The final journey and the last week beginsThe Road to JerusalemJesus set His face toward Jerusalem, knowing what awaited Him. He entered the city on a donkey to shouts of Hosanna, cleared the temple courts, taught in the temple, and wept over the city.   6. 06The Last Supper, Gethsemane, trial, and the crossThe PassionOn the night He was betrayed Jesus shared a final meal with His disciples and gave them the bread and cup as the new covenant. He prayed in Gethsemane, was arrested, tried before the council and before Pilate, and was crucified at Golgotha.   7. 07The empty tomb and the appearancesHe Is RisenEarly on the first day of the week women came to the tomb and found the stone rolled away. Jesus appeared to Mary Magdalene, to the disciples behind locked doors, to two travelers on the Emmaus road, and to many others over forty days.   8. 08Ascension, Pentecost, the Great Commission, and the hope of His comingThe Church and the ReturnJesus commissioned His disciples to make disciples of all nations and was taken up into heaven. At Pentecost the Holy Spirit came, Peter preached, and the church was born.
