Caesarea Philippi
Also known as Paneas, Banias
Caesarea Philippi was a city at the foot of Mount Hermon, rebuilt by Herod's son Philip and named for Caesar and for himself. In the villages around it Jesus asked His disciples who they said He was, and Peter answered that He is the Christ.
Why it matters. Peter's confession, the first prediction of the cross, and the transfiguration a week later all belong to this northern journey.
