Nazareth
Nazareth was a small village in Lower Galilee where Jesus grew up, which is why He is called Jesus of Nazareth. Luke records the annunciation to Mary there and Jesus's later rejection in its synagogue.
Why it matters. Nazareth explains the Gospel name for Jesus and shows the ordinary, obscure setting of most of His life.
