Damascus
Damascus is an ancient city of Syria, named in Genesis and throughout the history of Israel's kings and prophets. Saul of Tarsus was traveling there to arrest believers when the risen Jesus met him on the road, and in Damascus he was healed, baptized, and first proclaimed Jesus as the Christ.
Why it matters. The road to Damascus is where the persecutor became the apostle.
