Antioch
Also known as Antioch of Syria, Antioch on the Orontes
Antioch on the Orontes was one of the great cities of the Roman world and the home of the first largely Gentile church. Believers were first called Christians there, Barnabas and Saul taught there for a year, and the church sent them out on the first missionary journey.
Why it matters. Antioch is the launching point of the mission to the nations and the place where the followers of Jesus received their name.
