Abraham
Abraham, first called Abram, was the patriarch whom God called out of Ur to a land He would show him, promising him descendants, a great name, and blessing for all the families of the earth. Genesis says he believed God and it was credited to him as righteousness.

Adam was the first human being, formed by God from the dust of the ground and placed in the garden of Eden to work and keep it. With Eve he disobeyed God's one command and was sent out of the garden. Genesis, Luke's genealogy, and Paul's letters all treat him as the head of the human family.

David was the shepherd from Bethlehem who became Israel's second king. God promised him a house and a throne that would endure forever, and many psalms are attributed to him. The Gospels present Jesus as the Son of David, the promised heir to that throne.

Elijah was the prophet from Tishbe in Gilead who confronted King Ahab and the prophets of Baal, was fed by ravens and by a widow in Zarephath, raised the widow's son, and was taken up to heaven in a whirlwind. Eve was the first woman, made by God from Adam's side as his partner and named by him because she would be the mother of all the living. Deceived by the serpent, she ate the forbidden fruit and gave it to her husband. God's promise that her offspring would crush the serpent is spoken in her hearing.
