Judah

Also known as Judah son of Jacob

Judah was the fourth son of Jacob and Leah, the ancestor of the tribe that gave Israel its kings. Jacob's blessing promised that the scepter would not depart from Judah, and through his son Perez the line runs to Boaz, Jesse, and David.

Why it matters. Jesus is the Lion of the tribe of Judah in Revelation, and Hebrews notes that our Lord descended from Judah. Matthew's genealogy names him in its second line.
