Eve
Also known as The woman, Mother of all the living
Eve was the first woman, made by God from Adam's side as his partner and named by him because she would be the mother of all the living. Deceived by the serpent, she ate the forbidden fruit and gave it to her husband. God's promise that her offspring would crush the serpent is spoken in her hearing.
Why it matters. The first promise of the Gospel is tied to Eve: the offspring of the woman will defeat the serpent. Christians have long read Mary's son as that offspring.
