Jonah
Also known as Jonah son of Amittai, Jonas
Jonah was the prophet from Gath-hepher sent to preach in Nineveh. He fled by sea, was swallowed by a great fish for three days and three nights, and after his deliverance preached to Nineveh, which repented. Jesus named the sign of Jonah as the one sign His generation would receive.
Why it matters. Jesus made Jonah's three days in the fish a picture of His own burial and resurrection, and Nineveh's repentance a rebuke to those who would not repent at His preaching.
