The raising of Jairus's daughter

Also known as Talitha koum, The woman who touched His cloak

A synagogue leader named Jairus begged Jesus to heal his dying daughter. On the way a woman who had suffered bleeding for twelve years touched His cloak and was healed, and Jesus told her that her faith had made her well. Word came that the girl had died; Jesus took Peter, James, John, and her parents into the house and raised her with a word.

Why it matters. Two people with nothing left but faith, a desperate father and an unclean woman, receive life and peace from Jesus in one afternoon.

Chronology confidence: medium

All three Synoptics interleave the two stories: on the way to Jairus's house a woman who had bled for twelve years is healed by touching Jesus's cloak. Matthew tells both more briefly.
