Jesus appears to the gathered disciples

That same evening Jesus stood among the disciples in a locked room, greeted them with peace, showed them His hands and side, and ate in front of them to prove He was no ghost. He opened their minds to the Scriptures, breathed on them, and told them they would be His witnesses.
Why it matters. The risen Jesus is bodily, recognizable, and still sending; the disciples' fear turns to joy in a single evening.

Luke and John both place this appearance on the evening of the first day. Luke stresses that Jesus ate fish and showed His hands and feet; John adds the locked doors, the greeting of peace, the breathing of the Spirit, and the sending. Thomas was absent according to John.
