Mary of Bethany
Also known as Mary, sister of Martha
Mary of Bethany was the sister of Martha and Lazarus. She sat at Jesus's feet to hear His teaching, fell at His feet weeping after her brother's death, and anointed His feet with costly perfume six days before the Passover, an act Jesus connected with His burial.
Why it matters. Mary's anointing is the one deed Jesus said would be told wherever the Gospel is preached, and her posture at His feet is a picture of a disciple.
