Anna
Also known as Anna the prophetess
Anna was a prophetess of the tribe of Asher, a widow of great age who never left the temple but worshiped there with fasting and prayer. When Jesus was presented she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to everyone waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem.
Why it matters. Anna is the first evangelist in Luke's Gospel, telling those who waited that the redemption had come.
