Connections around Daniel 7:13-14

  1. Acts 1:9-11 echoes Daniel 7:13-14

    Strong allusion or echoMedium confidence

Jesus is taken up in a cloud and promised to return the same way; Daniel saw one like a son of man coming with the clouds to receive an everlasting kingdom. The link is widely noted but Acts does not quote Daniel.

    • Coming to the Ancient of Days: In Daniel the figure comes with clouds to the Ancient of Days, which some read as enthronement rather than return to earth; Jesus applies the clouds image to His own coming before the council (Matt 26:64), and Acts pictures both going and return with a cloud.

  2. Mark 2:10 echoes Daniel 7:13-14

    Strong allusion or echoMedium confidence

Jesus's use of Son of Man as a title of authority, on earth to forgive sins and destined to suffer and rise, is most often traced to Daniel's vision of one like a son of man who receives dominion.

    Other responsible views
    • An idiom for a human being: Some hold that in many sayings Son of Man is simply an Aramaic way of saying a man or this man, and that the link to Daniel is clear only in the sayings about coming with the clouds.
